"The Unreal Engine Update" | Grimhilde v0.2.0.3 (2025-08-07)


This game is currently in its debug testing stage and remains under development. As such, this build does not represent the final vision of the game. The completed version will include more features, a richer narrative, improved graphics and animations, original assets throughout, and other additional content. This build exists purely for debugging purposes and to allow fans to test new features as they are gradually implemented. Please note that many planned features are currently missing, and all non-original assets are temporary and are intended be replaced in future versions.

At this time, there is no official website or dedicated social media presence for the game. To stay informed about development updates and future releases, please follow the game’s pages on Game Jolt and Itch.io, and subscribe to my YouTube channel: @Manequinette. You can also find archived versions of previous builds on the Internet Archive.

This particular build marks an important step in the game’s history. It has been exactly five years since the last update was released. Since then, I’ve made the decision to rebuild the game from the ground up in Unreal Engine, replacing the original Unity version. This required a complete restart of the project. This build is an almost faithful recreation of the previous version, designed to serve as a foundation from which I can resume active development moving forward.

NEW FEATURES

  • "Credits" page added (Main Menu)

  • New eye blinking system for all characters
  • Hair physics added

CHANGES

  • Switched game engine from Unity to Unreal Engine
  • All character models redesigned (now made in VRoid Studio)
  • Removed Corvina's house entirely
  • Redesigned and reworded the opening disclaimer
  • Removed the "Main Menu" button in the in-game ui (was no longer needed after the addition of the pause menu)
  • Other changes, such as improved graphics, lighting, animations, NPC pathfinding, etc, occurred as a direct result of the switch to Unreal Engine

FIXES

KNOWN ISSUES

  • "Snow White" can sometimes get stuck and become unable to move around the player if they block her path
  • Collision glitches occur when running directly into a wall on or inside the building, causing visible issues with the hair physics (and sometimes the camera too)
  • Adjusting the View Distance setting makes no noticeable difference
  • Grass foliage is static

MAIN OBJECTIVES (for the next update)

  • Building an entirely new map to replace the current one (likely won't be ready for the next update)
  • Increasing the complexity of NPCs, primarily focusing on giving them all schedules, enabling them to go to class at set times and move around the building more realistically
  • Redesigning the uniforms
  • Redesigning the in-game UI (including removing the mini-map)
  • Redesigning the main menu
  • Adding footstep sounds
